WHY LEGAL HELP MATTERS
Legal representation in Ukrainian microloan disputes
A small short-term online loan can generate a much larger claim after repeated interest charges, extensions and additional fees. Before accepting the balance shown in a lender’s app or message, a borrower should establish the exact amount disbursed, the terms agreed and the repayment history.
A microloan lawyer examines the evidence and the relevant consumer-credit rules. Unlike broader banking litigation, this service specifically addresses non-bank microfinance loans, short-term interest calculations and electronically concluded credit contracts.
01 / INTEREST
Disputed high interest
We analyse the loan period, contractual rates, extensions, fees and repayments.
02 / COURT
A microfinance lender has sued
We assess the claim, prepare a defence and challenge unsupported calculations.
03 / ASSIGNMENT
An unfamiliar company demands payment
We investigate the assignment and identify the lawful creditor and claimed balance.
04 / IDENTITY
A loan was opened without consent
We investigate authentication and payment evidence and consider lawful remedies.
INTEREST AND FEES
Reviewing interest and charges on Ukrainian microloans
Ukraine’s Consumer Lending Law imposes a maximum daily percentage rate of 1%, calculated using a statutory formula. The cap was introduced in stages following 24 December 2023. It cannot simply be applied retrospectively to every older loan: the contract date and any subsequent extension matter.
On 7 September 2026, the Supreme Court’s Joint Chamber in case No. 552/672/23 clarified that ambiguous consumer-credit terms may be interpreted in favour of the borrower. However, a court cannot independently rewrite an otherwise non-void term without the appropriate claim. The legal remedy must therefore match the precise problem.
We distinguish contractual interest during the credit period from possible consequences of default under Article 625 of the Civil Code. A lender’s total calculation must be examined item by item rather than accepted as a single unexplained figure.
01 / TIMING
The applicable legal cap
We determine the contract date, statutory regime and later extensions.
02 / PRINCIPAL
Money actually disbursed
We compare transfer records, bank statements and repayments.
03 / PERIOD
The basis of each charge
We separate contractual interest, default-related payments and fees.
04 / EXTENSION
Extensions and consent
We check whether an extension was authorised and the terms it introduced.
WARTIME PROTECTION
Late-payment penalties during martial law
Ukrainian consumer-credit law provides specific protections against liability for overdue payment during martial law and the applicable period thereafter. Depending on the loan and the applicable provisions, late-payment fines, penalties and related charges may be restricted. These rules do not automatically cancel the amount borrowed or all valid interest.
We examine the substance of every fee, especially charges labelled as administrative services that may in reality arise only because of late payment.
Important. Martial-law rules should not be treated as blanket loan forgiveness. Each debt component requires its own legal assessment.
DIGITAL EVIDENCE
Can an SMS-signed online microloan be challenged
Under Ukrainian electronic-commerce law, acceptance using a one-time code may validly create an enforceable electronic credit agreement. The absence of a handwritten signature does not by itself make the agreement void.
Nevertheless, the lender must prove the transaction and the disbursement of funds. In February 2026, the Supreme Court explained the need to assess the integrity and authenticity of electronic credit documents, including how they were delivered, stored and signed. We review the offer, acceptance, authentication and transfer records.
COURT LITIGATION
Defending a court claim filed by an MFO
A lawsuit does not establish the creditor’s claim automatically. The court must consider whether there is a valid agreement, proof of disbursement, a defensible calculation and evidence of the claimant’s right to recover the debt.
We prepare responses and procedural applications, analyse digital evidence and consider limitation issues where relevant. It is important to examine the court order commencing proceedings promptly because procedural deadlines may be short.
01 / RESPONSE
Preparing the defence
We address principal, interest, fees and the claimant’s evidence.
02 / DOCUMENTS
Electronic evidence review
We analyse authentication, the agreement files and payment data.
03 / HEARING
Court representation
We draft applications, submit evidence and represent borrowers.
04 / OUTCOME
Appeals and enforcement
We assess the judgment and lawful post-judgment options.
DEBT ASSIGNMENT
If a microloan debt has been sold
A Ukrainian microloan claim may be assigned to a finance company. The new claimant should establish its entitlement and the specific debt transferred. We examine assignment documents, debtor registers and evidence of the actual outstanding amount.
If the issue is primarily harassment or unlawful debt-collection contact, that calls for a distinct anti-collection remedy. This page focuses on the underlying credit claim and the evidence supporting it.
OUT-OF-COURT OPTIONS
Negotiating with a microfinance lender
Litigation is not always the best first step. Once we have checked the figures, it may be possible to propose a payment arrangement or final settlement. The lender must agree to any negotiated modification.
A promised settlement discount should be recorded properly in writing, together with evidence that the agreed payment will discharge the relevant obligation.
IDENTITY FRAUD
If a microloan was taken out in your name
The legal response begins with evidence: how the application was authenticated, which telephone number was used and where the money was transferred. We help assess correspondence with the lender, financial records and whether a criminal complaint is appropriate.
The Supreme Court’s judgment of 8 April 2026 in case No. 705/1938/25 illustrates why the circumstances of device access and electronic authentication matter. A bare allegation of fraud does not itself establish that a contract is invalid.

YOUR QUESTIONS
Frequently asked questions about Ukrainian microloans
Can a Ukrainian MFO demand any interest rate?
No. Consumer-lending legislation contains a daily-rate cap subject to statutory transitional rules and the contract date.
Can a lawyer cancel every microloan?
No. Each agreement and claim must be assessed individually. Some charges may be challengeable, but loan principal is not automatically cancelled.
Does the 1% limit apply to an old loan?
Not necessarily. The date of the loan and extensions after the legislative changes are important.
Is an SMS-code loan agreement valid?
It can be. Ukrainian law recognises certain electronic signatures and acceptance mechanisms.
What should I do if an MFO sues me?
Provide the court papers promptly so the response deadline and the supporting evidence can be assessed.
Are late-payment penalties suspended during martial law?
Specific protections apply to consumer-credit default; the principal and valid contractual interest are separate matters.
Can interest continue after the repayment date?
Contractual interest and legal consequences of default must be distinguished under the agreement and the Civil Code.
Can I negotiate a reduced settlement?
Possibly, if the lender agrees. The agreed amount and discharge of the obligation should be recorded in writing.
What if a finance company bought my loan?
Its entitlement and the specific assigned debt should be verified before accepting payment demands.
What if someone used my details to borrow?
Investigate the authentication and money trail, preserve digital evidence and consider available legal and criminal remedies.
Can you work with me remotely?
Initial assessment and much of the paperwork can often be completed remotely.
Can you review several loans together?
Yes, but each agreement, payment history and creditor must be assessed individually.
How are legal fees calculated?
Fees depend on the documents, number of loans and litigation stage. Scope and cost are agreed after initial review.
Is an MFO dispute the same as collector harassment?
No. A microloan dispute concerns the debt and its calculation; harassment concerns unlawful collection conduct.
