Residence Permit in Ukraine
Temporary or Permanent Residence Permit: Which Is Right for You?
Residence permits are a core part of our immigration practice. Foreign nationals seek legal assistance to live, work or study in Ukraine, reunite with family, or obtain permanent residence. Eligibility and application procedures depend on the type of permit.
Temporary Residence Permit
Allows a foreign national to reside in Ukraine for a specified period on a legally recognized basis, such as employment, study or family reunification. The validity period and required documents depend on the individual circumstances.
Permanent Residence Permit
Provides the right to reside in Ukraine on a long-term basis and broader opportunities, including employment. As a rule, obtaining this permit first requires an immigration permit based on a qualifying legal ground.
Our dedicated guide explains how to obtain a residence permit in Ukraine, including eligibility, documents, application stages, processing times, costs and the rights of foreign nationals.

Frequently Asked Immigration Questions
How is an immigration lawyer different from an intermediary?
A lawyer provides legal advice, examines the lawfulness of government decisions, prepares procedural documents and may represent clients in court within the scope of their authority.
Can I obtain a residence permit without a legal basis?
No. Temporary and permanent residence permits require grounds established by law. A lawyer can assess whether any of those grounds apply to your circumstances.
What should I do if the migration authority refuses my residence permit application?
Obtain and review the decision, identify the reasons for refusal and check appeal deadlines. Depending on the circumstances, a new application, administrative appeal or court challenge may be available.
Can a lawyer challenge an entry ban?
A lawyer can assess the legality of the ban and prepare a challenge. Whether it can be lifted depends on the legal basis of the decision and the available evidence.
Is permanent residence always required before applying for Ukrainian citizenship?
No. Citizenship requirements vary by category, and permanent residence is not a mandatory preliminary step for every applicant.
Can a visa be guaranteed?
No. The decision is made by the competent consular authority. A lawyer can assess the requirements, prepare documentation and advise on available remedies after a refusal.
Can I consult an immigration lawyer online?
Yes. Initial document review and legal consultations can be provided remotely, although certain procedures require attendance in person.
